- PCBNET Echo RULES
-
- PCBNET is an International echo on the Fidonet and other net backbones for the
- discussion, chat, assistance, etc. of PCBoard sysops and Fidonet technology.
- Primarily for use by PCBoard sysops, we welcome sysops of other programs for
- help and discussions. Any discussions of PCBoard and the fidonet technology
- is acceptable, on-topic conversation.
-
- Last Revision 7/15/92
- ---+ new since last posted
- ---+C {} changed since last posted
-
- 1. Foul language belongs on the street, not here.
-
- 2. Challenge the ISSUE, not the message poster.
-
- 3. Spelling doesn't count! But you may want to check it anyway. You don't
- want to be embarrassed. Do you? <hehehehehe>
-
- 4. Please keep to the subject. Any communications not on-topic
- will be considered annoying. Discussion of PCBoard beta software
- is definitely off-topic and will not be permitted in the echo. If
- you have agreed to beta test PCBoard or any other software, then
- you are obligated to keep any and all information about it to yourself.
- To do otherwise is illegal and such activity will not be tolerated
- in this echo.
-
- 5. No Ads! Without the permission of the Moderator. However, because there
- are several shareware authors in this echo, here to help PCBoard sysops
- specifically, advertising for PCBoard or Fidonet type SHAREWARE or
- FREEWARE software is acceptable. But it is still considered good form
- to request permission of the Moderator first. No commercial ads of any
- type.
-
- 6. There shall be no bashing of CDC, PCBoard, Fidonet, Software
- Programs, Software Authors or other individuals. If you have a problem
- with a program and want to discuss it, fine, but let's not tear down
- something unless you can offer constructive suggestions for building
- it back up.
-
- 7. There is only one Moderator. If you feel someone has broken the
- rules please NETMAIL the Moderator and don't take it upon yourself
- to admonish anyone. Let the Moderator Moderate!
-
- .1 Messages from the Moderator concerning enforcement of the rules
- are not considered off-topic, however, neither are they topics for
- general discussion by anyone other than the Moderator and the person
- being addressed. i.e., If the Moderator deems it necessary to write
- a person in the echo who is in violation of the rules, it is not a
- sign that the topic is a free for all and everyone can jump in.
- Discussion should remain between the Moderator and the person
- being addressed only! (Just a further clarification of "Let the
- Moderator Moderate!)
-
- 8. This conference MAY NOT be ported to the BIX echomail system,
- GroupMail or to any other network's echomail system without permission
- of the Moderator. (Current connections exempted)
-
- 9. Play nice.
-
- 10. Though this echo is read on primarily PCBoard systems, do NOT use the
- PCBoard macros in a message. Many others are here also, perhaps
- people considering PCBoard but who have not yet purchased it.
- If you absolutely must refer to one of the macros, use lower case,
- i.e., @first@, in order to discourage PCB from writing the macro
- information in a message. Macros should NEVER be used in a header
- under ANY circumstances.
-
- 11. In the event of the moderator's "disappearance" from the echo for a
- period of more than one month or inability to perform the functions
- of a moderator, and no succeeding moderator has been appointed, an
- election will be held in the echo for a new moderator. Such election
- shall be accomplished by the simplest means possible. Michael Nelson,
- 1:125/20 is alternate moderator and shall assume the role as
- temporary moderator to handle the election and interim during
- election or during a temporary absence of the moderator. Nominations
- shall be made within 20 days of announcement by the Z1EC. Election
- shall be by a "simple" majority of the sysops of the systems connected
- to this conference within 20 days after annoucement of the nominees.
- A succeeding moderator may change this or any other rule and is not
- bound by the preceding moderator's rules.
-
- 12. A sysop need not be a Fidonet or any other Net node to join this
- conference. So if you've other sysops calling your board, you may want
- to make it available to them.
-
- 13. Participation in this echo indicates acceptance of these rules!
-
- The SysOp of each board carrying this echo is granted the right to
- Edit or Kill messages which, in their opinion, are inappropriate and
- unacceptable on their system. Exception to this rule is the killing or
- editing of any messages received prior to feeding them to linked
- systems. This is NOT permitted. Please use common sense when
- interpreting this rule and, if in doubt, netmail queries will be
- promptly answered. However should you do so, I'd appreciate netmail
- explaining which message and why you felt it should be killed on your
- system.
-
- That's it, except that if someone comes up with a new and improved
- way to aggravate all and sundry, I reserve the right to make a rule to
- fit the occasion.
